How to import your RS XP/levels into Google Docs

Post by mozcheez » Fri May 25, 2012 5:33 pm

So, in case you didn't already know, I'm an uber spreadsheet nerd and use spreadsheets for everything. I thought I would start sharing some of this info with my fellow KoA'rs, because I've found it EXTREMELY helpful.

Most of it stems directly from how much xp I have left until a certain goal, and it's nice not having to type in your current xp all the time - google docs will update it for you!

Stuff I use these spreadsheets for...
- xp per day needed in a skill in order to reach my goal on a certain day
- how many games of SC i need to play in order to get enough hammers for 99 con
- whether my banked seeds will give me enough xp for 99 farming
- if I get 50k dung xp a day, when would I reach 120? (that one is quite depressing....)
- If I apply my weekly peng points and jot toward agility, how much does that lower the xp i need to earn by DOING agility each day to reach my goal?

Etc. The options are practically limitless. So, all this is determined by your current xp (overall or in a certain level).

How to Import your RS Hiscores data into Google Docs
Google docs is at http://docs.google.com. You'll need to create an account if you haven't already. I highly recommend using it.

On the page, at the top left, you'll see a big "CREATE" button in red. Click it and select "spreadsheet". This is your soon-to-be-totally-awesome spreadsheet! *nerd high-five*

In cell A1, copy and paste the following formula of text (including the equals sign, but change my username to your username - unless you want to stalk my xp, which is totally cool :P ), then press Enter to submit the formula:

Code: Select all

=ImportData(("http://hiscore.runescape.com/index_lite.ws?player=mozcheez"))
Whoa! What're all these numbers and gobbly-gook? Column A is your rank in a skill, column B is your level in a skill, column C is your current XP in that skill. Now, open the spoiler and copy the entire column of data. On your spreadsheet, click once in cell D1 and paste.

There! I've saved you some trouble and given you the name for what everything is :) I've never used the data for the mini-games, nor have I used rank, but they might be useful for some folks. Now all you might need is a handy table telling you what xp each level is, so you can calculate your XP remaining to that level. I've borrowed this from Sal's Realm of Runescape (clicking the image will take you to their site).
Now name your spreadsheet something helpful by click on the File menu -> Rename. You can always access it again by just going docs.google.com.

That's all there is to it! I recommend naming this specific worksheet something like "current skills xp" or something, and never touching it again. Always make additional worksheets and play around there, so you never accidentally muck something up.

If this was helpful or if you're interested in more Google Docs spreadsheet tips relating to RS, let me know :) I'm happy to share what I've worked out so far. Also, feel free to let me know exactly what you're trying to do if you can't work something out, or give me an example of what you want.

Gilly - I found this site that explains it all. It's a bit more complex than just using Google Docs, but I hope it works for you! I'd never tried doing this in excel at all, so I had to look it up.
