I can't thank you enough for posting this. I never really knew how the ring worked, it always confused me

Despite the rare chance, I still train my melee skills at Dust devils hoping for a dragon chainbody...it might not be worth a lot now, but its been a goal of mine since I reached 65 slayer.

Very interesting, the results regarding rune items correlate with some observations that I have had.

I do take issue with the assumptions of how random PRNGs are… yes they are inherently flawed, but randomness does not mean equal distribution.

Example:

A professor gives his class homework; flip a coin 200 times and record the result. Students have the option to fake the results or actually flip the coin and do it properly. The next week students turn in their homework and the professor quickly sorts the papers and determines who faked the homework. How?

Humans are horrible at generating random numbers or data. For 200 coin flips, there is an overwhelming probability that one outcome (heads or tails) will occur six times in a row. When a human is generating the numbers however, the "streak" of 6 heads or tails doesn't seem random and we try to generate what seems like a more even distribution.

Likewise, in the above article, it is assumed that a "bad streak" or a "good streak" is a fault of the "un-randomness" of a computer-based RNG, when in actuality these "streaks" are very probable in a random sequence.

S'a very good explanation, but not necessarily the truth (albeit an option).
The only thing we know from Jagex is this (10th letter), which confirms the two drop tables. There's plenty algorithms that generate random numbers out there.
They did mention at some point though, that they'll add an extended article about how the RoW works to the Game Guide, so one day we might know (good time to start bugging about it over the RSOF)!

I had an awesome signature, but the internet went bankrupt.
