For this game you should know 2 or more languages, but who doesn't?
The rules are simple, the game less so:
1) Guess the original word and/or meaning of the previous "translation"
1.1) maybe give some info about it
1.2) if you like: alternative translations (pretend it came out of an other language than specified, etc)
2) Translate a word or proverb into an other language in an unusual way. If it's not obvious, provide the name of the original language.
2.1) maybe you've seen someone use the word? how else did you find it?
Example:
Ear-jump (Dutch)
I was wondering where the strange pronunciation of "notoir" (notorious) came from
next post:
translation (next post): origin (oorsprong)
in the word "oorsprong", "oor" does not mean ear at all, it's more like "oer" and "oir"(pronounced the same as oor) - I don't know how to accurately translate them though.
Now the real start: Out-speak (Dutch, might work in German as well)
Someone on rs asked me "how do you speak that out?"

Correct
That works in dutch as well, nearly anyway..
I'm sorry but I don't know much Estonian
Hand-drawing (Dutch, I'm afraid it won't work in German..)
found: just popped up in my thoughts.. I didn't have to put one anywhere
or if that's too hard (not many people speak Dutch)
Words-book (Dutch, German, other Germanic languages as well, but English only seems to use the word of Latin/French origin)
found: Well I was using one..

Doek is really more generic than towel though..zakdoek < handkerchief
Tuch is also more generic than towel isn't it?Taschentuch < handkerchief

No idea about the first word.
But here is mine :
help-life ( estonian word )
as hint : I have been in help-life over 10 years now. Probably every young girl dreams about getting into help-life ( at least when I was young. erm. younger than now)

Re: Lost In Translation - the forum game
I can solve Harald's first one.
Signature (Unterschrift in german, handtekening in dutch)
About Kal's I can only guess, cause I have no idea what estonian girls dream about. I know she's been married pretty long, so can it be "marriage"?
I'll give a try at this too, but it only works in dutch I think:
Fly-scum
Just popped in my head.

niceFly-scum < vliegtuig (airplane)
This may be a hard one again, for people who don't speak Dutch. Ridiculously easy for people who do speak Dutch though..
Stop contact (Dutch)
I was searching my mind for a good word, and I was looking at one..
