If you could only be one class in runescape.

Melee, due to the fact that most creatures you kill are melee based. Warrior armour is much more effective against a majority of NPC.

I'd pick melee, mages might be smart but they aren't smart when their brains are all over the wall.

On another note, runescape used to have classes, waaaay back when it first started. Mage, warrior, ranger, are the ones I remember, but I seem to remember there being a cook class as well?

Seems as if in any game I go melee first. Always been a front-liner.

Yeah waaay back in early 2001 runescape did have starting classes. This account was a Necromancer. I believe it was +3 Evil magic, black wizzy hat and top? Runewiki says it was a staff so it could have been. I found info on runewiki and summed it up quick. Feel free to check it out if you want all the info.

Originally, there were classes from which players could choose. This feature was removed in early July 2002. Tutorial Island was released in the following September. Depending on the class chosen, new players would start with a higher level in the appropriate skill at a compensation of lower skill levels in other areas. For example - a miner would start with level 5 mining, but they would also start with 9 Hitpoints.

Runescape combat mechanics makes being a mage rather nice, so long as you have money for it, with safespots, barrages, etc. If you were a mage in any other mmorpg you would probably be torn apart soloing anything, and that I have found myself in such situation too many times to remember

One class eh? I think I would go with "Ultimate Supreme Overlord" More of a "title" then class, but has a nice ring to it, don't ya think?

Just 1 class to pick is almost impossible to me.

Personaly I prefer the "Red Mage" to the full extent, sword techniques, useful non-combat spells, powerful 2h sword, etc. However, I can honestly say that since I can't do much with Ice Burst in full Bandos I would say I want to be a mage since I always mage in stealing creation and have alot of fun doing it.

Melee .. i've been a range/mage pure, and to be fair, melee is far more amusing than either.

I think its mostly because i can afk str/attack at spiders, while typing this post, and doing other such non-rs related things.
