Treasure Trails reworked

Post by gk willie » Fri Jul 02, 2010 11:32 am

From Behind the Scenes - July. A rework of the Treasure Trails, New Elite Treasure Trail clues, only dropped by high level boss monsters, 150+ new rewards and every treasure trail will get a unique treasure trail reward. On one hand it'll be nice to always be guaranteed a trail specific reward at the end, but then again, should we be guaranteed one? That kind of takes away the suspense of it all. The disappointment at getting addy platelegs, swordfish and red firelighters at the end of an exhaustive run, is all a part of the risk of using your time to follow thru on the clue scrolls, instead of grinding away at pounding on whatever monster you happened to be pounding on when you got the scroll drop. I have a feeling this may take the mystique of treasure trails away and make the rewards less special if everyone is getting them. Or maybe i'm just thinking to hard, it's still early in the morning.

I know I had given up doing treasure trails because they simply weren't worth the time and subsequent lost XP. I did 'em religiously for a few years, but in the end I determined that spending 30 minutes on a treasure trail to get a 500K reward every 10-20 clue scroll drops simply was not worth the XP lost and the drops I would have gotten had I spent those 10 hours Slaying, Farming, etc.

I don't recall the exact figures as to how often/rarely a decent drop would come as I stopped at least 2 years ago. I doubt I would start doing them again either now, since the value of clue rewards will now go down since they're going to be more frequently dropped. Now it just won't be worth the lost XP. If they all of a sudden started dropped massive amounts of skilling materials I needed, then I could consider them worth doing.

I'm bitter that Jagex has spent $50+ million of RS subscriptions developing other games instead of improving RS. If you're reading one of my posts and I even allude to Dungeoneering as a "skill" instead of minigame, keep that in mind.

I don't equate needing to wear 30 different outfits and do jackass emoted as suspense. Id rather make the drop rarer and the clue part easier for a guaranteed reward.

Im interested in what the new rewards will be. I don't really do clues now though so I'll see how it is before i start again.

a brand new set of treasure trails – called the elite treasure trails – and new rewards. These trails (dropped only by high-level boss monsters like the Skeletal Horror and Bork) introduce a new puzzle known as the celtic knot.
Perfect for who don't train combat much except for the daily D&D bork and weekly once skeletal horror; and love puzzles. Looks like there are enough people in rs for them to even consider this. I am glad with this one.

I love Treasure Trails and do them when I can. Its just one of those simple things that makes my gameplay fun. The only thing that worries me is the price of some, if not all of the items. With a unique item each trail, some things will absolutely bottom out in price. I'm sure that the items will be on a said drop table and be rarer than others, but I just wonder how rare some things like ranger boots, robin hats and third age will still be after elite rewards. But, regardless of that, I still believe I will enjoy the update just like everytime they update clues.

I can't wait for these new treasure trails! While slaying there are days I do 5-10 a day! I have honestly lost count of how many clues I have done in all my runescape playing time. The most frustrating of it all is... I have NEVER received a piece of 3rd age! Can you believe that??? thousands of clues done and nothing!

Just like Redfalling said... I am worried about this update because Jagex states that you WILL recieve 1 "good" treasure trail item reward with every clue you do. Is this going to affect the market? Will zammy, sara and guthix items drop massively in price? What about the extremely rare 3rd age? Do we have a better chance of recieving it now? So will it become another "not-so-rare" item?

I look forward to better rewards, but truly a better reward is based on it's value, so if we recieve a better reward with every clue we do... will it really be better since the value will be lowered due to 1 good reward a clue?

I completed my first elite TT today. It took a while, but I really liked it. Especially running around the chaos tunnels trying to find the clue using scans.

Reward:

9 antifire pots (4 dose)
1 dragon dagger
9 super restore pots (4 dose)
68 nat runes
91 guthix arrows

Value:

289,089 gp
