With screens so huge these days, it makes sense.
Of course, if they do this right it might bring a stupidly large amount of new players into the game. There are already some MMOs out there, none of which gets near RuneScape's size, so... New platform, new clients (players), more money, (hopefully) less of that Solomon/TH bullshit!

Yes! gutted as I own a windows phone so no beta for me, but on a bad note a lot of ols school players have been getting phishing emails about signing up for the beta so please be caareful if you get any emails about it all
