The next quest on my list is Brink of extinction. So any advice is welcome.
Is it safe? If you die in combat in this quest, do you lose your items?
My combat levels are relatively low, and my magic is lower still. What would be the best set-up for someone of my levels for this quest?
All advice is much appreciated.

Re: Brink of extinction quest
I finally finished this quest. In the end I defeated the quest boss, TokHaar-Hok, with melee, which show you don't have to have high combat levels to beat this boss.
The set-up I used in the end was Guthans helm. Guthan's body, Guthan's chainskirt, Sara sword, Gandodermic boots, Gandodermic gloves, Obsidian cape, Amulet of fury, and Tokkul-Zo ring. I took 3 prayer pots (but only needed 2) and monkfish.
I concentrated solely on the the Tok-Zil until he was dead and then focussed on TokHaar-Hok. Once he started getting near halfway mark in his health I kept hitting him with 'backhand' ability whenever I could to keep him in one place and just used the other abilities on him. I'm only 91 strength, 86 defence and 88 attack (now 89) and he was fairly easy to kill so long as you avoid the hot plates. I prayed piety and protect melee throughout.
I kept trying to kill him with mage in my previous attempts and failed miserably each time as I'm only 77 mage.
This guy is a bit like Nomad, I reckon. Once you get the right set-up for your level, he's fairly easy.
